UNESCO has officially proclaimed 15 December as “World Turkic Language Family Day” during its 43rd General Conference in Samarkand on 3 November 2025. The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) welcomed this historic decision, emphasizing that it recognizes the ancient roots, cultural unity, and global significance of the Turkic language family.

Statement by Amb. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States

I warmly welcome UNESCO’s historic decision to proclaim 15 December as “World Turkic Language Family Day” during its 43rd General Conference held in Samarkand on 3 November 2025.

This landmark decision highlights the ancient origins and universal values of the Turkic language family, reflecting its profound historical legacy as a unifying force within the Turkic civilization.

The adoption of this day by UNESCO — the leading global institution dedicated to safeguarding cultural and linguistic diversity — also attests to the growing recognition of the Turkic World’s identity, values, and increasing role in today’s global landscape.

We extend our sincere congratulations to all Member States and Observers for their valuable contributions to this meaningful initiative.

The Organization of Turkic States reaffirms its commitment to promoting our shared historical and cultural heritage, strengthening the unity among Turkic peoples, and advancing our common vision for the future.
